OpenAIRE (the infrastructure of the European Commission for Open Access whose technical coordinator is ISTI) is creating a "Scientific Gateway" where all metadata about the research products related to COVID19 and SARS-CoV-2 (clinical data, epidemiological, scientific articles, software, methodologies, processes, etc.) will be automatically aggregated from relevant sources world-wide. The Gateway will offer a single-point of discovery and access for COVID-19 research results not only for publications but also for data, software, and other reserach products.
The project was strongly encouraged by the European Commission and developed in synergy and complementarity with other European initiatives “called up to the army”, such as ELIXIR and RDA, where ISTI and CNR play an important role, by representing the Italian nodes.
OpenAIRE has also set up a dedicated space to deposit immediately and free of charge the research results relating to COVID19 (articles, datasets, software, etc.) in the Zenodo.org. This space (the COVID-19 Zenodo community) has collected in a few days more than 100 scientific contributions produced by researchers from all over the world.
Furthermore, OpenAIRE has released a call for experts in the medical / biomedical / SSH sectors and beyond, who can contribute to:
- Curate the community in Zenodo.org to make sure all submitted contributions are of scientific relatedness with COVID-19;
- Support the OpenAIRE technical team to set up Text and Data Mining algorithms for the automatic discoring of research results and projects related to the COVID-19 and SARS-CoV-2
- Help us in updating the list of selected COVID-19 related resources for the Scientific Gateway.
